John Powers, President of Murrieta Genomics, the launch pad for genomic sequencing startups, joined Ben Bobo to discuss an innovative solution to ramp COVID-19 testing in the United States. The podcast episode debuts May 13 at 12 pm PDT on the Beyond with Ben Bobo YouTube channel.

“We needed a solution to rapidly scale testing capacity. Utilizing existing equipment and highly trained personnel from non-conventional academic and research labs across the U.S, this model draws on instruments and reagents from outside the strained supply chain to set up high volume COVID-19 testing at point of care facilities. Murrieta Genomics is proud to have partnered with scientists and researchers to focus on this RuleOut.org Lab Developed Test (LDT) and regulatory framework which is readily implementable,” Powers stated. “The RuleOut team has created a novel approach that can exponentially increase COVID-19 testing capacity.”

The RuleOut.org model can provide a scalable framework to perform over 150,000 tests per day in California alone. COVID-19 created an unprecedented surge in testing demand, and our solution enables critical testing capabilities for all.

“This is a passion project for the principals at RuleOut,” Powers stated. “When talking with potential partners and collaborators they are initially confused, looking for the business model. RuleOut.Org is a true volunteer-based organization with the objective to deploy a decentralized approach and process utilizing existing equipment and expertise to create thousands of test sites that can scale testing on a massive level. In the spirit of innovation and collaboration we encourage others to take the ball and run with it.”

“We all want to get back to normal as quickly as possible,” said Bobo when announcing the premiere of the show. “When John told me about this approach to testing, I thought it was an idea that needed to get out to as many people as possible. I am very happy to help get the word out about this approach to COVID-19 testing.”
