An article in Science magazine on December 13 explains how genomic sequencing was able to track the latest E. coli outbreak to contaminated water. This is a great example of how genomic sequencing can assist with public health and safety. Murrieta Genomics is very interested in assisting researchers in developing new tests for water safety.

“Whole genome sequencing linked the strain in the sediment of the reservoir at Adam Brothers farm in Santa Maria to strains of the bacterium found in some of the cases.”
